What is Nanotechnology? What are the applications of Nanotechnology? What relation may have the research, technology and nanomaterials ... with “engagement”, ‘’gender equality’’, ‘’science education”, “open access”, "ethics" and “governance”?

Greek Pupils of 6th grade and secondary education students with their teachers undertake to explain to us all the above with a simple, understandable and enjoyable way through interactive games...digital posters, experiments, hands-on and playful activities, even origami!

These are the exhibits designed by many different student groups within their participation in the European project IRRESISTIBLE and they focus on nanotechnology applications and RRI issues. The IRRESISTIBLE exhibition in Greece is installed into two different places: in Athens and Heraklion, Crete.

IRRESISTIBLE Exhibition at the Eugenides Foundation, Athens

The IRRESISTIBLE exhibition is located in the ground floor of the permanent Interactive Exhibition on Science and Technology at the Eugenides Foundation premises, with a total surface area of 12 m2 and consists of 12 interactive (high and low interactivity) exhibits. The IRRESISTIBLE exhibition is divided into three sectors:

A. How small is Nano (the scale of the objects)?

B. Nanotechnology applications and RRI

C. Assessment through playful activities

Overview of the IRRESISTIBLE exhibition

The exhibits content deals with:

I. Hydrophobic materials

II. Nano medicine

III. Size and Scale

IV. General knowledge on Nanotechnology

V. Nanotechnology Applications

VI. Nano-structures

IRRESISTIBLE Exhibition at the Natural History Museum, Heraklion, Crete

A specially arranged room of the Natural History Museum of the University of Crete hosts the IRRESISTIBLE exhibition in Crete which consists of 5 exhibits developed by secondary education students from schools of Rethymnon and Heraklion. The exhibits utilize different ways to communicate the science content and RRI issues as:

I. Hands-on experimental activities

II. Digital quiz

III. Posters

The exhibits content deals with:

I. Hydrophobic materials

II. Nano medicine

III. Ferrofluids

IV. General knowledge on Nanoscience and RRI issues

Public opening simultaneously in Athens and Heraklion, Crete

The public opening of the IRRESISTIBLE exhibition took place on the 3rd of May 2015 in a celebration with the participation of teachers, students and their parents in Athens and Crete. More specific, each exhibit team from Athens gave a brief presentation about their exhibit to the exhibit teams in Heraklion city, Crete (Natural History museum) and vice-versa. The presentations were made through skype. Totally 200 persons participated in this event in Athens and Crete respectively.

European Museums Night

Moreover, the IRRESISTIBLE exhibition of the Greek Col was presented in the European Museums Night (16th of May 2015, 21:00- 00:00) where Eugenides Foundation participates officially. This event was an exciting culminating event for students and excellent promotion of the project. In the framework of the European Museums Night, students from the Greek CoL attended the event as exhibit designers. They also served as docents or explainers. They were stationed at each exhibit, encouraging visitors interaction with the exhibits, assisting them (if necessary) and posing or answering questions. It is estimated that more than 1.000 visitors visited or interacted with IRRESISTIBLE exhibits.
